Born in Adare, Co. Limerick in 1952, Henry Morgan studied at the Limerick School of Art and was awarded a scholarship to Oslo University. Since his return to Ireland, having completed a BA in Fine Art, he has exhibited extensively both at home and abroad and has
been a regular exhibitor at the Irish Exhibition of Living Art, The Royal Hibernian Academy, EVA in Limerick, among many others.
Henry has been inspired by the local landscape from the Burren to the Clare Glens and the coast of Clare and beyond. These rugged landscapes feature strongly in his work, and he continues to carve his niche among the higher echelons of Irish Art.
A contemporary artist of substance, his work is now included in many public and private collections.
From the Burren and West Clare to the Clare Glens in Co Limerick, rugged landscapes feature strongly in his work, and he continues to carve his niche amongst the higher echelons of Irish Art. A contemporary artist of substance, his work is now included in many public and private collections. Henry describes himself as a traditionalist, however when you linger and gaze on his amazing works you find yourself transported to the verge of surrealism, where landscape and scenery define your very identity. Henry’s vision is deeper than that, of course. What you recognise in his interpretation is not only familiar landscapes, but your own connection to them.
Henry says of his work, Many of my paintings are inspired by flowing water, still ponds and the sea. This painting titled Murmuring Chasm is a sensorial depiction of a hidden rock pool, mesmerically dancing with light, space and water. The protruding stick represents the wand that stirs the imagination.
Rivers, rock pools and ponds may be viewed as renegades, defying gravity, dancing to their own tunes, and ever inspiring.
